Latin Lush!

Lluis Barba is set to enjoy the spotlight of a solo exhibition at this year’s Pinta show. The Barcelona based artist will be the Cynthia Corbett Gallery’s sole presentation at the Earls Court show in London, which focuses on the art of Latin American culture. Though Catalan, Barba is included as part of a celebration of Spain and Portugal’s influence on Latin America. Barba’s photographic montages are remakes of classical themes and each recreates classical scenes by painters, from Hieronymous Bosch or Pieter Brueghal to Raphael and more modern painters like Magritte. Barba populates his scenes with modern day personalities from socialites to film stars, artists and of course fashion designers. Karl Lagerfeld is a regular reference point, appearing in his remake of Pierre Subleyras’ The Studio of the Painter, Project of the Great Adequacy of the Great Gallery of the Louvre by Hubert Robert and Raphael’s Marriage of the Virgin. He uses digital technology to integrate color photography of contemporary personalities into the black and white or grayscaled paintings. Visitors can also expect to pick out the likes of Kate Moss, Paris Hilton, Milla Jovovich, Angelina Jolie as well as Jay Jopling, Brad Pitt and more. The Pinta show takes place from June 7 to 10 in London and November 8 to 11 in New York. www.thecynthiacorbettgallery.com
